Diversity Safe House Discussions

Future-Focused Finance are committed to supporting Diversity & Inclusion, recognising that it is an important aspect in ensuring finance teams identify, nurture and support talented individuals from all backgrounds. A key aspect of the diversity workstream is to support and enhance the careers of protected groups within the function, to help them to achieve their potential and ensure that finance leaders today and in future are representative of the diverse workforce within NHS finance. This can have real tangible benefits for the individuals, to the organisation and be a huge contributor to improving the quality of patient care.

FFF are hosting two safe house discussions in July 2018 that will focus on understanding the barriers facing female employees and employees from a BAME background when trying to progress in their careers.

When are they taking place?

Both workshops will take place in central London, the first on Wednesday 4th July with a focus on women and the second on Thursday 12th July focusing on ethnicity.  The workshops will run from 10:30 – 15:30 and are free to attend. Lunch will be provided.

What will the day include?

The workshops will be interactive and practical and will take place in a safe environment for delegates to openly discuss their experiences and feelings around the key themes for the day. Delegates will have the opportunity to take part in facilitated discussions to understand and explore the key issues and barriers facing them and their organisations regarding career progression within NHS finance. The workshops will apply an approach that uses unconscious bias as the opening point, to explore individual bias and enable difficult conversations in a safe space.

The key outcomes and action areas of the day will be taken forward by FFF to implement into their diversity work programme and through the roll out of projects.

How to register

We welcome a wide range of delegates to register their interest in attending either event from all bands, backgrounds and regions. Places are limited, and we ask that you register your interest in attending by emailing futurefocusedfinance@nhs.net - indicating your preferred workshop by Monday 4th June 2018.  We will be in touch by Friday 8th June to confirm if your attendance at the workshop has been accepted.

Alex Gild, HFMA President for 2018, has written about some of the issues around diversity and inclusion in his most recent blog, here. He was also kind enough to mention our safe house discussions at the end of the blog.
