David Ellcock, FFF Programme Director, Sophie Rowe, FFF Programme Manager, and AK Maheswaran, Consultant Anaesthetist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Lead for Clinical Engagement, NHS Future-Focused Finance made a visit to Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on Tuesday 22 October to meet with Matron Geoffrey Walker and his colleagues to look at the work that they undertake in ensuring that nursing and AHP staff have a good understanding of NHS finance.
The work being done by Matron Walker is innovative in terms of finance and care, leading the way by ensuring that all staff work closely with the trust's finance team to ensure resourced, sustainable and forward-thinking care delivery that can also attract external funding, where appropriate.
During the day, David, Sophie and AK met with MS Lead Practitioner, Michelle Davies, Finance Managers, Gary Wilkins and Kieran Bhikea and Alcohol Care and Treatment Service (ACTS) Lead Graeme White.
They were also able to visit the Acute Medical Unit to look at their green campaign and Sister Peeke on the pioneering Treatment and Investigation Unit to look at admission prevention.
The FFF team were able to take away a number of ideas and gain an understanding of what Poole Hospital is able to achieve locally. They will look to build on these ideas in future FACE programmes as we look to widen our sphere of influence to include nursing and AHP colleagues as well as doctors.
